HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE Household garbage is picked up weekly at the curb from city provided wheeled garbage carts. It is the responsibility of each resident to place such garbage or refuse at the curbside no earlier than 5:00 p.m. on the day before collection. After collection the garbage cart must be removed from the street or curb by 8:00 a.m. of the day following. Household garbage is the only thing that should be put into the container. Additional garbage carts can be obtained for an extra charge by calling the Public Works Department at 770-267-6933.
RECYCLING Recycling is collected weekly at the curb the same day your garbage cart is picked up. Each resident is provided with a recycling bin. The following items are collected in this program: aluminum, tin food and beverage containers; newspapers; magazines; all plastic containers that have the number 1 or 2; and glass (green, brown, clear, and yellow). Please remember to rinse and remove all lids and tops from plastic and glass containers. Motor oil may be brought to the Public Works Department for disposal but will not be picked up at curbside. White goods (old appliances/scrap metal, paint cans-there must be no paint remaining in the can) will be picked up by the Solid Waste department once per week, or you may bring it to the Public Works Department and have it put in the metal recyclable container.

YARD TRIMMINGS The City will collect the following yard waste items once per week. Items picked up are as follows: • Limbs, no longer than five (5) feet in length and 6 inches in diameter. • Grass clipping and leaves: leaves will be picked up as soon as possible. Please be patient due to the amount of leaves that are placed at curbside. • Brush and vines • Christmas trees • All items must be separated before they will be picked up. All yard waste items should be placed at the curb near the street, on the shoulder between the ditch and street, or on the backside of the ditch. • NONE of these items shall be placed on the street or in a drainage ditch or sidewalk. If so, this is in violation of the ordinances of the City of Monroe and residents will be issued a citation. • Note: Landscaping contractors will also be issued a citation and charged for the clean up of the street and/or drainage.
COMMERCIAL PICKUP This service is provided Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Solid Waste department has 2-yard, 4-yard, 6-yard, and 8-yard dumpsters for this service. You may request any of these dumpsters and also how many days a week you would like your dumpster emptied. Once this is done, the department can give you the information on what this service will cost. If you have any further questions call 770-267-6933. Dumpsters are for regular garbage from the business renting that dumpster only. Construction debris and other items cannot be placed in these dumpsters.
