The Office of the City Marshal was the original law enforcement authority in the town of Spring Place and the newly formed City of Monroe dating back into the 1800's.  Around 1900 the Monroe Police Department replaced the City Marshal as the primary provider of law enforcement services.  Today, the Office of the City Marshal addresses issues of civil law enforcement including code and local ordinance violations, various business license enforcement issues, and facilities security for city government property.
